Paul Merson explains why he predicts West Ham defeat to Everton

Pundit expects West Ham to slip up against Everton.

West Ham travel to Roberto Martinez's Everton this weekend hoping to keep their good run going.

Goodison Park is never an easy place to go for visiting teams, and SkySports pundit Paul Merson predicts they will lose the game.

Writing in his weekly prediction column, Merson explained why he feels the Hammers will slip up.

He said: "It does depend on what sort of team turns up, but Everton have been pretty consistent recently and this will be a hard game for West Ham.

"I do not think there are many harder games than this away from home and West Ham have just had to work very hard for the Tottenham result and they have a big game next weekend at Old Trafford, so I am going to go for a 2-1 Everton win."

Everton won 3-1 away to Aston Villa in midweek but remain down in 11th position in the table, although they do have a game in hand on several teams around them.

The Toffees have won only four of their last 10 games, in comparison to West Ham's six, but three of these Everton wins have come in their last four games.

West Ham are flying after a 1-0 win over Spurs which puts them one point off the Champions League places, and a draw at Goodison would probably be seen as a satisfactory result.

Last month Merson predicted a West Ham loss against Norwich City and was almost correct, with the Hammers drawing the game 2-2.
