Martin Keown admits he had doubts about Crystal Palace's Connor Wickham who is fast improving

Connor Wickham has scored four goals in his last two matches for Crystal Palace.

Martin Keown has told the Daily Mail that he was unsure about the quality of Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham, but he has started to be won over by the former Sunderland man.

Wickham moved to Selhurst Park from Sunderland last summer, and he was expected to become the Eagles’ main man up-front.

However, the 22-year-old has struggled for goals throughout his time at the London club so far.

Wickham failed to score in open play in his first 13 Premier League appearances for Alan Pardew’s side.

However, he has now blasted in four goals in his last two outings, and Keown has begun to be won over.

“Up front there wasn’t as much certainty and they haven’t really had a consistent centre forward,” the former Arsenal defender said. “Connor Wickham looks like he could be that man and though I wasn’t sure he was an out and out goalscorer, he’s shown in the last few games he’s got goals in him.”

Palace have struggled to find a potent front man all season, with the likes of Dwight Gayle, Frazier Campbell and Marouane Chamakh all failing to hit the back of the net with any regularity.

Wickham is now under pressure to keep up his goalscoring form, as Palace look to break out of their terrible run of form.

The Eagles have failed to win any of their last 11 Premier League matches, and they have slipped all the way down to 14th in the Premier League table.
