Former West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United defender Danny Gabbidon predicted on the Drivetime show on talkSPORT on Tuesday evening (broadcast from 4pm, March 1) that Sunderland, Newcastle United and Aston Villa will get relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.
“I think Sunderland,” said Gabbidon when asked who he expects to join Villa in the bottom three. “They don’t look as solid as I would like. I think Newcastle as well, they are shipping in a lot of goals.
“I don’t think they recruited that well defensively. I think they needed a centre-half more than what they had going forward. So I think they could be in danger. But they are capable of winning games as well, so I think that’s what might save them.
“They are going to lose a few, but they might win a few along the way as well, and that might just keep him safe. But if I had to pick, I would say Newcastle as well.”
Newcastle and Sunderland both are in real danger of going down to the Championship at the end of the season.
Norwich City, Swansea City and even Bournemouth are not entirely safe, and there is still a chance that both Newcastle and Sunderland could finish outside the bottom three.
There are still 10 more rounds of matches left in the Premier League this season, and there is still hope for all struggling clubs except Villa, who look doomed for relegation to the Championship.
The Villans are at the foot of the Premier League table at the moment and have picked up 16 points from 28 matches.
