Arsenal supporters are becoming increasingly frustrated with boss Arsene Wenger after yet another title bid crumbles before them following back-to-back defeats to Manchester United and Swansea City.
Wenger has had plenty of sympathy in the past, what with Chelsea and Manchester City spending huge amounts of money and long-term rivals United having the brand name to attract the best players.
But with the trio faltering so badly this season, there can be no excuse as to why Arsenal currently find themselves languishing in the title race behind Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City.
If Wenger doesn’t win the title in a season where all the main challengers falter, some argue he never will.
As such, calls for a change have long been underway and one of the names mentioned is Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone. Balague, however, doesn’t envisage that move ever happening.
“I don't think Arsenal would even consider him. His footballing philosophy goes against what Arsenal stand for as a club. He would have to overhaul the squad at the Emirates to carry out what he would want,” he said.
Simeone is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in the world, taking over an Atleti side who were then in midtable and guiding them to a Europa League, Spanish Super Cup, Copa Del Rey and La Liga title.
The Argentine certainly comes with some pedigree, yet his side’s intense and physical style of play is in some contrast to the Gunners’ style and should he move to the Emirates an adaptation period would be needed.
