The story of former Tottenham Hotspur player John White is one few fans will ever forget.
After beginning his professional career at Alloa Athletic and then moving on to Falkirk, the Scottish midfielder signed for Spurs in 1959.
Playing as an inside-right he excelled at Tottenham and he was an ever-present in their double-winning campaign of 1960/61.
He would later add another FA Cup and a European Cup Winners’ Cup to his trophy haul, a medal collection few players will ever achieve.
With 217 Tottenham appearances under his belt by the age of 27 and with 47 goals for the North London club he was heading towards cult status, but his life was cut short when he was struck by lightning at Crews Hill Golf Club in July 1964.
John White will forever be remembered for his brilliant performances alongside midfield partners Danny Blanchflower and Dave Mackay, but fans who look back on his contribution fondly would be forgiven for wondering what might have been had he been allowed to continue playing the game he clearly loved.
