Everton have been financially backed by Farad Moshiri.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Tony Cottee has shared his thoughts on the arrival of new investor Farhad Moshiri to Everton, saying that Toffees fans should look at two teams to understand why Bill Kenwright has taken so long to accept new investors.
Cottee said: “I get really fed up with people having a go at Bill Kenwright and questioning him. You have to work out who is the right person for the football club and you have to get that decision absolutely right. Liverpool might have got things right now but under the two guys before they were heading for disaster. Then you look at the situation at Aston Villa under their new owner. Things can very easily go wrong.”
Bill Kenwright has been looking for a buyer for the Toffees for a long while now, and he has been criticised at times this season for his seeming failures.
However, he was just taking his time to find the correct man, especially with Moshiri expected to purchase a major stake in the club before too long.
Kenwright has done great work with Everton, and he doesn’t want the man who replaces him ruining the club due to a lack of experience or understanding of football.
Cottee has praised Kenwright for his decisions, and he has urged Everton’s fans to look at both Liverpool and Aston Villa to see what poor ownership can do to a club.
Liverpool were being run into the ground under Hicks and Gillett, whilst Villa are still in the midst of trouble under Randy Lerner - a man who clearly has no interest in the club any more.
Everton have been promised new investment and a brighter future, and if Moshiri does bring this success, Kenwright should take a lot of praise for building this successful base.
