Speaking to talkSPORT, Tim Sherwood has admitted that it was Aston Villa’s fans who were behind the success that the club enjoyed last season, staying in the Premier League and reaching an FA Cup Final.
Sherwood said: “Those fans, they are the best fans I’ve ever worked with. They pulled us through last season. Without them fans last season, we wouldn’t have got where we got.”
Sherwood took charge of the club in February 2015, going on a good run of form to keep the Midlands side in the Premier League.
He also helped Villa reach the FA Cup Final, coming from behind in the semi-final against Liverpool to reach an FA Cup Final for the first time since 2000.
He had the backing of the fans for much of last season, and their faith was rewarded by Sherwood keeping them in the top flight.
However, he failed this season, and was sacked by the club in October 2015, with Remi Garde taking over to little effect.
Many praised Sherwood for his work last season, but he has admitted that it was actually the fans who were behind all the success that the club enjoyed.
The manager has claimed that it was their support which pulled the team through their rough patch, but that support has deserted them this season with the club sitting last in the Premier League table.
