Newcastle have reportedly made an opening offer for Samuel Umtiti.
Newcastle have made an offer for Samuel Umtiti, Sport reports.
The Magpies have been linked with the French defender in recent weeks, and the Spanish media outlet claims that they have made an initial offer for him.
The report also claims that Barcelona are tracking the youngster’s services, but it is Newcastle who are making the first moves to formalise a transfer.
The 22-year-old centre-back is considered one of the best talents in French football, and he already has over 150 games worth of experience to his name, despite his young age.
Capped at all youth levels for France up to Under-21, Umtiti - who was born in Cameroon - is expected to make the step up to the senior squad before too long.
He is always expected to move to a bigger club in the coming years, and Newcastle are ready to offer the centre-back a path to the Premier League.
There is no reference in the report as to the size of their offer, but it is stated that Lyon are renowned as tough negotiations, and will want an amount exceeding £11.6 million (£15m).
