According to Tutto Mercato Web, Aston Villa are holding meetings today and tomorrow over the possible signature of Crotone defender Gianmarco Ferrari.
Villa are hurtling towards relegation after Tuesday's 3-1 home defeat to Everton, and with Remi Garde's men eight points adrift of safety, the drop to the Championship looks inevitable.
Many fans will be hoping that Villa bring in a number of experienced Championship players who know what it takes to win promotion to the Premier League - but their first summer target may be something of a surprise.
Tutto Mercato Web report that Villa have organised meetings with the representatives of Crotone defender Gianmarco Ferrari ahead of a summer move for him.
Ferrari, 24, came up through the ranks with his hometown club Parma, and after loan spells with Renate and Gubbio, Ferrari signed for Crotone permanently in the summer of 2014.
Now, the Italian centre back has seemingly impressed in Serie B, catching the eye of Villa as they look to overhaul their relegation-bound squad at the end of the campaign.
Ferrari may not be what fans had in mind in terms of strengthening the squad this summer, but the club are allegedly pressing ahead with a move, and will hope to finalise an agreement this week as the meetings between Villa and Ferrari's agents continue.
