Rangers: top 30 players - Number 28

Over the course of two spells, defender Dave McPherson showed why he was awarded a place in the Rangers Hall of Fame in 2014.

It may have taken Dave McPherson two cracks of the whips to achieve success at Rangers, but for a combined total of almost 10 years, the Scot was a mainstay of the defence at Ibrox.

After starting his career in Glasgow, McPherson made over 200 appearances over seven seasons, but they came at a time when success had dried up on the pitch. His only league title would come in his final campaign before he was sold to Hearts by Graeme Souness.

To some extent, making the switch to Tynecastle proved a blessing in disguise. McPherson would become club captain and represent the national team, and when he returned to Rangers five years later, he slotted into a side that were dominating Scottish football.

He contributed to the club's domestic treble and double that were achieved in his first two seasons before he eventually fell down the pecking order at the club as foreign players began to arrive on both sides of the border.

He would end his association with Rangers with 22 goals from 276 league appearances and he has rightly been inducted into the club's hall of fame.
