Antonio scored the only goal of the game as the Hammers beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at Upton Park on Wednesday evening.
The 25-year-old was stationed in the unfamiliar position of right-back for the London derby, but he still managed to impress and Thompson claims that his performances have gone under the radar so far.
“Michail Antonio has not deserved the praise he should do in this side,” Thompson said. “He couldn't get in the side for the first few months but now he's been absolutely terrific. He's also been a scorer of vital goals.”
Antonio was brought to West Ham from Nottingham Forest last summer, and his initial few months at the club were extremely frustrating.
The winger featured just once up until the end of December, but he has made up for lost time now.
Antonio has accumulated 20 appearances so far this term and he has managed to score on six occasions.
Four of these goals have come in his last four appearances at the Boleyn Ground and he is quickly becoming a fans favourite for the Hammers.
Antonio’s good form has helped West Ham climb into sixth place in the Premier League table, with Slaven Bilic’s side just one point back from the top four.
