The former West Ham winger has been impressed with Antonio’s performances so far this season.
“Michail Antonio has been brilliant,” Etherington wrote on West Ham’s official website before Wednesday evening’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur at the Boleyn Ground. “He did well at Nottingham Forest, popping up with plenty of goals.
“He’s been a real handful for the opposition and scored some great goals. People questioned whether he could make the step up and he’s answered them.”
Antonio joined West Ham from Championship side Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2015.
Interestingly, the former Sheffield Wednesday man has played at right-back on occasions in the absence of Sam Byram.
Antonio has scored five goals and created 11 chances in 16 Premier League appearances for West Ham so far this season.
The winger has a pass accuracy of 63% and a shot accuracy of 44%, and has won 27 headers, 24 dribbles and 14 tackles.
West Ham will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Everton away from home at Goodison Park in the Premier League.
