Manchester City fans react on Twitter as title challenge is dealt serious blow after 3-0 defeat to Liverpool

Manuel Pellegrini's men are currently 10 points adrift of Premier League leaders Leicester City.

Manchester City fans have understandably been left shell-shocked after their hopes of clinching the Premier League title were dealt a huge blow as they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday.

The Citizens would have had plenty of belief going into the game at Anfield, having beaten the same opponents in the Capital One Cup final on Sunday - albeit on penalties - and knowing that a win against Jurgen Klopp's men would have been enough to move them to within seven points of league leaders Leicester City with a game still in hand over the Foxes.

However, goals from Adam Lallana, Roberto Firmino and former City midfielder James Milner mean that Manuel Pellegrini's side go into the final 11 games of the season 10 points off top spot.

And perhaps more worryingly, the defeat has seemingly opened the door for the teams below them to close the gap and put some pressure on City for that final place in the top four.

Manchester United's win against Watford has moved them level with the Sky Blues, while West Ham's surprise victory over Tottenham means that they are now within one point. And while City's game in hand over the chasing pair means that they can create some daylight once again, they will know that further performances like the one they put in on Merseyside may result in the club being absent from the Champions League during Pep Guardiola's first campaign in charge.

Unsurprisingly, City's supporters were not happy about Wednesday's result.
