Divock Origi stated his case for further opportunities last night with an impressive display up front for Liverpool.
After starting two games in four days, Daniel Sturridge was demoted to the bench, and Origi selected in his place ahead of international colleague Christian Benteke.
Origi was preferred off the bench to the former Aston Villa striker at Wembley, and last night against Manchester City he showed Jurgen Klopp's faith was well placed.
Liverpool won the game 3-0, climbing to eighth in the Premier League table and closing the gap on the top four.
The Belgian striker was energetic up front and led the line well, constantly putting pressure on the Manchester City defence.
He continued to show he is more mobile than Benteke, while he does not have the brittle nature of Sturridge. It would be false to suggest he is as an accomplished finisher as either of his competitors, but when Liverpool possess the goal threat from midfield they showed last night, it hardly mattered.
A goal or two would boost his confidence, but simply being selected for now is a big opportunity for Origi, who is looking like one of the club's most improved players under Jurgen Klopp.
Here is a look at how Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to his performance...
Origi doesn't look like a player who was voted the worst in Ligue 1 last season. #LFC— No Quotes. (@tj_cummings) March 2, 2016
Origi sure does press, run & tear apart defenses better than Benteke & Sturridge— Zaid Shahin (@Dr_ZaidShahin) March 2, 2016
In my opinion Origi ahould be 1st choice vs United (2) #LFC
Origi in for Sturridge allowed #LFC to press more effectively. Have to pick right games to field Danny. Lallana, Can & Milner were great.— BaVlaarVlaar (@bavlaarvlaar) March 2, 2016

I think origi gonna be perfect for klopp style! Puts pressure on the defence can hold the ball higher up the field just needs to add more— SeanicusArt1989 (@sean150490) March 3, 2016
Origi is such a work horse upfront, I just want Klopp to buy strike partner for him and ditch Sturridge to the bench or sell him— con (@conwooden) March 2, 2016
Klopp has changed Origi for the better. Rodgers tried to make him Benteke v2, Klopp knows his strengths and is helping him play to them.— James (@Jubleee) March 2, 2016
