Harry Redknapp admits he knows exactly how he hurt Tottenham's fans

The former Tottenham boss has been discussing the north London side.

Harry Redknapp admits he knows he hurt Tottenham Hotspur fans by wasting their best chance to finish above Arsenal, according to his regular column in the London Evening Standard.

Their best chance... until this season.

The former manager blew a big points lead during his last campaign at White Hart Lane as speculation grew over the England job and the north London side's form tailed badly.

Redknapp told the Standard: "Spurs are desperate to finish above Arsenal, of course, and I was always aware of that during my time at Tottenham.

"We wasted the best chance to do it in my last year there.

"I know that hurt the fans and they will be desperate to finally do it this season but, far more importantly, they will want to win the League."

Morale at White Hart Lane might be a little lower this Thursday morning following defeat to West Ham, while confidence will be at rock bottom at Arsenal.

But things change so quickly in the Premier League and Spurs could be back on top and heavily fancied to overtake Leicester City after a good weekend.

Arsenal are the perfect opponents for Tottenham right now. Admittedly, the Gunners have been able to beat their arch rivals during some of their lowest moments in the past. Yet there will be no better chance to face a mentally fragile Arsenal side than at the Lane on Saturday afternoon.
