Liverpool overcame their Capital One Cup heartbreak by defeating Manchester City on Wednesday evening.
Having been beaten by the same team on penalties just days earlier, Jurgen Klopp’s team set out to get revenge at Anfield.
They went ahead after 34 minutes through a long-range Adam Lallana goal, which Joe Hart really should have saved, before James Milner doubled the lead with a well-worked goal just before half-time.
Roberto Firmino netted the third midway through the second half, and City never really looked like getting into the game.
It was a fantastic result for Liverpool, and it moved them back into the top 10 of the Premier League table, with a game in hand over Stoke City who sit one point ahead of them.
The result did a lot for the Reds’ hopes of qualifying for European football at the end of this season, and it has set the Merseyside club up well for this final stretch of the season.
