David Bentley explains why Dele Alli won't end up anything like him

The former Tottenham midfielder retired early but can't see the 19-year-old going the same way.

Former Tottenham Hotspur talent David Bentley has praised Dele Alli's maturity and can't see the teenager ending up like him, according to the Daily Express.

Indeed, Bentley retired early, frustrated with several aspects of life as a professional footballer.

He is happy now - but so is Alli in the exact same position the retired midfielder used to be in.

And Bentley told the Express: "While Dele has been impressive so far, the best thing is that I know he has a lot more in him. He is showing so much maturity by not playing at his full level.

"Sadly, that is what you have got to do as a kid. You have to be humble and all this b******s. That, unfortunately, is the English way.

"I got fed up with all that but he’s actually doing it. He’s managing his ability. That is a good to see because he has a lot more in the locker. And good for him. He will be one of the very best, provided he is allowed to develop as he wants."

The Spurs teenager's maturity has been a standout quality this season - so much so that Alli hasn't actually been talked about that much recently.

The 19-year-old has simply blended in at Tottenham and, whether he's out injured or starring as the matchwinner, we are simply used to Alli being a first-team regular and being in the form of his life.

For someone so young, Alli could still have a major impact in the title race - and for England this summer.

But he'll be taking things one game at a time, avoiding exactly the kind of problems Bentley encountered in his career.
