West Ham's Dimitri Payet responds to Zinedine Zidane comparisons

Zinedine Zidane

The ex-Marseille man concedes that he has a ways to go before he emulates his legendary compatriot.

Dimitri Payet has admitted that he has not reached Zinedine Zidane's level in football - despite what West Ham United fans sing, as quoted by the Hammers' official website.

The French playmaker has been an instant success in England following his £11 million summer switch from Marseille, netting nine goals in all competitions and setting up another seven.

It is safe to say that the Irons' faithful have loved watching him too, with the supporters often singing 'he's better than Zidane' for much of the season.

When asked by the club's official website what he made of the song, Payet responded: “Of course I love the song and the supporters sing it all the time when we play home and away.

“In terms of the comparison with the Zidane that is the fans opinion, but I feel he is still above me!”

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic will need his go-to-guy on form tonight as West Ham welcome Premier League title-chasing Tottenham Hotspur to Upton Park.

A home victory could potentially see Bilic's side move joint fourth with Manchester City in the final Champions League qualification place, depending on results elsewhere.
