Liverpool legend Phil Thompson explained on the Gillette Soccer Special show on Sky Sports News HQ on Wednesday evening (broadcast from 7pm, March 2) how the current Tottenham Hotspur side are similar to great Manchester United teams of the past.
“You show real character when you are getting beat, if you could come back, not once not twice but quite a few times,” said the former Liverpool defender.
“What made the great Manchester United teams so good is that they never accepted defeat and it seems as though this Tottenham team is getting like that.”
Tottenham have staged successful comebacks from time to time this season, including at the weekend.
Under Sir Alex Ferguson, United had a never-say-die attitude and made several late comebacks.
Remember the 1999 Champions League final?
Tottenham have yet to reach that level of making consistent late comebacks, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side do not panic or get confused when they go a goal behind.
The North London outfit are going strong in the Premier League this season and could win the title.
Spurs have a big game coming up this weekend, as they take on bitter rivals Arsenal at White Hart Lane in the Premier League.
