The 30-year-old Colombia international previously played one season in Spain with Elche.
Sanchez, 30, joined Villa from Spanish side Elche in August 2014 for around £4.7 million after starring during Colombia’s run to the World Cup quarter-finals in Brazil and has since made 51 total appearances for the club, recording one goal and an assist in the process.
The tough-tackling veteran has impressed at times during his 18 months in England, including during last season’s relegation run-in, but he has also struggled to get to grips with the pace of the Premier League and failed to produce a consistent run of form as a result.
Nevertheless, he has continued to fare well at the international level in the meantime, having earned rave reviews for his performances at the 2015 Copa America, and he could now be in line for a return to Spain this summer.
According to Don Balon, La Liga club Depor are interested in the 62-times capped midfielder and could make a move for his signature once Villa’s all but inevitable relegation is confirmed.
Sanchez, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, previously played one season in the Spanish top-flight with Elche, featuring 30 times for the now-Segunda Division outfit during the 2013-14 campaign following a £3 million move from French club Valenciennes.
The former Ligue 1 stalwart’s Villa contract is not set to expire until 2018 but it is now doubtful that he would stay beyond the summer with the club more than likely to be playing Championship football next term.
