Parlour said: “They have got to grind out results a bit better away from home. At St James’ Park, no problem. You’ve got 50,000 people behind you, and they do get behind you. Away form is going to be key if Newcastle are to stay up.”
The Magpies sit in the bottom three heading into tonight’s game against Stoke City, knowing that a win will take them up to 17th.
They also have another game in hand over all their relegation rivals as well, which could lift them to 16th with a victory.
However, there are no guarantees that the Magpies will win these games, especially the away fixture at Stoke this evening.
Whilst the Tyneside club would be mid-table based on home form, they have only won two of their 13 away games this season.
Aston Villa are the only team with a worse record than the Magpies away from home, and whilst St James’ Park has proven a productive venue, Steve McClaren has failed to get his team firing away from Tyneside.
Parlour believes that McLaren needs to sort out this away form if the Magpies are to stay in the Premier League this season, as it is what is preventing them being a mid-table side.
They have the home form of a much better team, and if they can replicate this away from St James’ Park, Newcastle will have no trouble staying in the top flight.
