Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori has said he hopes teammate Romelu Lukaku finishes ahead of rivals such as Leicester City's Jamie Vardy and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to win the Premier League golden boot, as quoted by the Mirror.
Mori and Lukaku both scored as the Toffees eased past bottom side Aston Villa with a 3-1 victory at Villa Park on Tuesday night, which temporarily takes the club into the top half of the table ahead of Wednesday's fixtures.
Lukaku's goal was his 22nd in all competitions this season and 17 of those have come in the Premier League, a total which is only two behind league top scorer Jamie Vardy's 19.
The Belgian's strike on Tuesday night means that he has already equalled his best season's return in the English top flight, with his previous best having been the 17 he hit for West Bromwich Albion whilst on loan at the club three years ago.
Funes Mori is backing the 22-year-old to hit even greater heights this season and believes it can be his teammate who finishes as the league's top scorer.
The Argentine said, according to quotes in the Mirror: "I hope he is the top scorer, that would be better for us.
"He is a very important player for us. To score 17 goals is not an easy thing. He has a lot of power and is a top player. Hopefully he can keep scoring goals for us."
Lukaku has an outstanding pedigree for such a young striker, having racked up 75 goals in just 168 games in English football with Chelsea, West Brom and Everton.
That tally adds to the 41 he netted in 98 matches as a teenager for Anderlecht in his native Belgium befor emovign to Stamford Bridge in 2011, whilst he has already won 42 caps for his country, scoring 11 times.
