Paul Ince describes West Ham midfielder snub as a joke

Mark Noble

Paul Ince says Mark Noble of West Ham should be picked for England ahead of Leicester City's Danny Drinkwater.

Former West Ham midfielder Paul Ince is not fondly remembered by fans of the club for the way he left for Manchester United, but he is a big admirer of a fan favourite, Mark Noble.

Noble, who will have his testimonial at the club this summer, has never been picked for England despite being a regular for the Hammers.

Ince criticised the possibility of Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater getting called up for the Three Lions by comparison, which was reported by The Mail last month as being a strong consideration for current boss Roy Hodgson.

A former England captain, Ince told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I can't for the life of me understand why Mark Noble is not in the England squad.

"He has been doing it year in year out. It baffles me people are talking about Danny Drinkwater, its just one season. I think its an absolute joke to be fair."

West Ham fans rarely will see eye to eye with Ince, but this is one topic on which they will be in certain agreement.

England's loss is their gain, and Noble continually being overlooked should give the midfielder added motivation to prove successive managers wrong, and keep him fresher, potentially enabling him to extend his club career in the long term.
