BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson explains his West Ham v Tottenham prediction

Mark Lawrenson believes West Ham and Tottenham will draw 1-1 this evening.

Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks West Ham United will draw 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur at Upton Park this evening.

The Hammers head into the game having beaten Sunderland 1-0 on Saturday afternoon, and whilst Michail Antonio scored a fine goal, West Ham weren't at their best against the relegation-fighting Black Cats.

European qualification is on the cards for West Ham, and they even sit just four points off a Champions League place after a superb season under Slaven Bilic.

The Croatian has guided West Ham to an outstanding campaign, and his side have lost just six games this season - only Leicester and tonight's opponents Tottenham have lost fewer Premier League matches.

Spurs make the short trip to Upton Park having beat Swansea City 2-1 on Sunday afternoon, coming from 1-0 down to win the game and boost their title hopes - and head into the game knowing that they can go top of the table with a win after Leicester's draw with West Brom on Tuesday night.

Now, pundit Mark Lawrenson - who has become famed for predicting defeats for West Ham - has now offered his prediction for this huge London derby.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Lawrenson backed a 1-1 draw, suggesting that Spurs face a tough challenge against a 'skilful but strong' West Ham team.

"A lot of people are looking at Tottenham and thinking they can win the league - and they probably think they can themselves as well," said Lawrenson. "But this is a tough game for them because West Ham are not just a skilful side, they are very strong too."
