Everton picked up three more points on Tuesday evening, securing a 3-1 win over Aston Villa.
It was always expected that the Toffees would pick up all three points, given the poor performances Villa have been putting in all season, and it came as no surprise to see Roberto Martinez’s men win.
They did not perform that well themselves, but it was telling that they could play averagely and still win in such a convincing manner.
Centre-half Ramiro Funes Mori opened the scoring inside the first five minutes, before Aaron Lennon doubled the lead before the end of the first half.
Romelu Lukaku extended the goal margin in the second half, although Joel Robles could not keep his clean sheet in the Everton goal when he was beaten by a Rudy Gestede header.
The win moved Everton into the top 10, with them currently sitting on 38 points after 27 games. They could fall down as low as 12th this evening, dependant on the results of games involving Liverpool and Watford.
Following the game, Lennon reacted on Twitter to his goalscoring performance, with keeper Robles also praising the performance of his Toffees’ teammates.
