West Ham sign teenage striker Sam Ford

West Ham United have added another promising youngster to their ranks.

West Ham United have announced on their official website that they have signed former Ipswich Town striker Sam Ford.

The 17-year-old had been on trial at Upton Park after leaving the Championship side and he has clearly impressed with the Hammers handing him a deal until the summer of 2017 with the option to extend his stay further.

Ford scored in a development squad match against Wolverhampton Wanderers’ under-21 side last month and he looks set to play at that level for the rest of the season.

Ford becomes the latest youngster to join the Hammers after being released elsewhere, with Martin Samuelsen the most successful recent addition following his exit from Manchester City last summer.

The play-maker is currently on loan at Peterborough United where he is excelling and Ford will be hoping to have a similar impact in the long term.

The rest of this season will be all about bedding into his new surroundings, with the pre-season campaign giving him the chance to catch West Ham manager Slaven Bilic’s eye.
