Toby Alderweireld explains the importance of Tottenham's fans this season

White Hart Lane

Tottenham Hotspur are on course to win their first ever Premier League title this season.

Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Toby Alderweireld has been speaking to the club’s official website about the importance of their fans.

Spurs are flying high in the Premier League and are currently the favourites to win the title despite being two points behind leaders Leicester City with 11 matches remaining.

The North London club are also in the last-16 of the Europa League where they will face German side Borussia Dortmund later this month, and Alderweireld has admitted that the players and the fans are one at this vital time.

“The supporters feel we put a lot of energy into the performances, we work hard and sometimes you need the fans to take you to the next level,” the Belgian international told tottenhamhotspur.com.

“We are one team with the supporters and I hope we can go to the next level together. We’re one big team and that’s the only way to achieve something.”

In an age when footballers are earning more money than ever and can seem inaccessible to supporters, Alderweireld’s comments are refreshing to hear.

There is no doubt Tottenham’s supporters have played their part time and again this season, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side winning 17 points from losing positions to date.

Next up for Spurs is a crucial clash against West Ham United and if they can win that tricky away fixture they will head into the weekend match with Arsenal on cloud nine.
