Sunderland's Jack Rodwell made his first league start for the club since December as they drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace.
The injury prone midfielder lasted all 90 minutes in the draw, which at one stage appeared unlikely after he picked up a booking and continued to walk a disciplinary tightrope.
Rodwell started in midfield along with Yann M'Vila and Jan Kirchhoff, with Lee Cattermole on the bench.
He attempted to make an impact for the Black Cats, with three efforts on goal, but only one landed on target.
It was a game which Sunderland came dangerously close to losing, and would have done had it not been for an excellent late strike from Fabio Borini.
Rodwell completed 80 per cent of his passes, and made one interception, but it was a fairly low key display from the former Everton and Manchester City midfielder, who The Guardian claimed cost Sunderland £10 million in 2014.
He has made only five Premier League starts this season, with 12 appearances from the bench, and with the club deep in the relegation mire, now would be a good time for Rodwell to step up and start repaying that fee.
Here is a look at how Sunderland fans reacted on Twitter to his performance...
2 points dropped. Excellent performance from Rodwell. Hopefully keeps cattermole away— Dan (@Sunderland1879) March 1, 2016
On the plus side, Rodwell actually had a good game. Borini should start ahead of N'Doye against Saints and Pickford ahead of Mannone. #SAFC— Daniel Graham Parker (@dgp202) March 1, 2016
Rodwell man of the match by a mile class tonight— ▪️ (@Owen98N) March 1, 2016

Slated Jack Rodwell plenty so only fair to point out how well he played tonight. Unfortunately, a poor result at this point in the season— Chris Weatherspoon (@christoph_21) March 1, 2016
Rodwell had his best game in a Sunderland shirt tonight, not brilliant but definitely better than what Cattermole has produced #SAFC— Scott (@76skelly) March 1, 2016
The amount of people saying Rodwell had a good game tonight is puzzling. I must have watched a different game tonight— Martyn Armstrong (@MKA97FTM) March 1, 2016
Rodwell was class today, only player that deserves any credit. N Doye just adds to the list of shit strikers to play for us #SAFC— Jordan maloy (@MaloyJordan) March 1, 2016
