Ross Barkley has scored 12 goals and racked up eight assists in Everton's matches so far this season.
This season has been the best of Barkley’s burgeoning career to date, with the 22-year-old scoring 12 goals and racking up eight assists in 34 appearances.
And McInally now believes that Barkley deserves to be regarded as one of the elite attacking midfielders in the Premier League.
“He’s absolutely in that class,” the Sky Sports pundit said when asked whether Barkley was as good as Ozil.
“He’s exciting, he takes players on. He got a bit of the Mousa Dembele about him, in the way that he can skip past players. If he doesn’t play for England at the Euro’s then there’s something seriously wrong.”
Barkley was always considered to be a top talent, but this season he seems to have added end product to his potential.
Everton have relied on the youngster to be their most creative player, and he has also started to play a key role to England.
Fitness permitting, Barkley will almost certainly go to the France with the Three Lions for Euro 2016.
And for him now to be put him in the same bracket as Ozil is a huge compliment to Barkley’s ability.
Ozil has scored seven goals and made 18 assists in 33 matches to date this season, and he is regarded as one of the finest playmakers in world football.
