Pundit claims Pochettino's Tottenham could repeat Southampton weakness, predicts defeat

Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier is worried Tottenham will trail off at the end of the season, and tips them to lose to West Ham.

Matt Le Tissier has voiced his concerns that Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham Hotspur side will trail off at the end of the season.

The Southampton legend argued the Argentine's intense fitness sessions leave the players out of energy in the final months of the season, citing previous inconsistent results late in the season with the Saints.

Pochettino was appointed by Tottenham in the summer of 2014, after an impressive 18 months at Southampton.

Le Tissier is predicting Tottenham to lose 2-1 to West Ham on Wednesday evening, and told SkySports: "The pressure is starting to crank up a little bit now and with 11 games to go you do start seeing your objectives a bit clearer.

"The worrying thing for Spurs is that Pochettino's Southampton side tended to tail off at the end of it, and I'm not sure if that was because of the way he demanded so much from his players."

In Pochettino's final season as Southampton boss, the Saints won just three of their last eight games, losing three and drawing two, picking up 11 points from a possible 24.

Last season at Tottenham, Pochettino's side won, again, just three of eight matches, again drawing two and losing three, collecting 11 points.

This year Spurs will need better than that, but there is a key difference this year to both of those years, this time around Pochettino's team will have something meaningful to play for.

Both last season and in Pochettino's final year at Southampton, by time April came around, his team had done their job, having a solid season but not good enough to stand a realistic chance of cracking the top four.

This season they are far better, and pushing to win the league title, with Champions League qualification looking near certain at this point.

Le Tissier's theory will be one which is revisited if Tottenham do end the season badly, but there is a limited sample size of two full seasons to base it on in English football, and this year could be very different.
