Merson foresees another poor result for former side Aston Villa.
Former Aston Villa midfielder Paul Merson believes his old side will suffer another defeat on Tuesday night.
Villa are rock bottom of the Premier League and their survival chances look bleak.
This is their first home game since a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Everton's Merseyside rivals Liverpool.
Merson told SkySports that he believes Villa will suffer another sizeable defeat, this time a 3-0 loss.
He said: "Playing against Everton will be another nightmare for Aston Villa, who look like a team who are beaten.
"I know they scored a consolation goal against Stoke on Saturday, but they were never really in that match.
"If the real Everton turn up, then I'd say they are a certainty, but as we've seen so many times this season, you don't know which Everton are going to turn up. The 'good' Everton team will win this easily."
Everton have been inconsistent this season, and currently sit in 12th place.
Yet there is real positivity around the club after a takeover by Iranian businessman Farhad Moshiri, the BBC confirmed, and the mood among hopeful fans could not be more different in comparison to the anger at Villa directed to their own owners.
Villa are in 20th position and are 12 points away from safety and with 11 games to go, if they are to stand any chance of making a last ditch run at survival they need to start winning games. They have a chance against Everton, but a slim one.
