Manchester United fans reply to Wayne Rooney's message to Marcus Rashford on Twitter

Manchester United fans let Wayne Rooney know he must earn his place back in the team.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was among the players to hail Marcus Rashford for his ruthless display against Arsenal.

Rashford netted a double in the 3-2 victory, making it four goals in two appearances.

Wayne Rooney has not been seen in a United shirt since the disappointing 2-1 loss at Sunderland, in which it was later revealed he picked up a knee injury which has kept him out of action since.

Rooney is close to becoming United's record goalscorer, and Rashford's goals in the Europa League brought back memories of his Champions League debut hat-trick against Fenerbahce back in 2004.

The England captain is evidently pleased at Rashford's success, but perhaps most striking is that United suddenly look a better and more fluid team - and Wayne Rooney is not involved.

The Sun claimed this week Rashford earns £500 a week, a drop in the ocean compared to the £300,000 Rooney earns.

When it comes to value for money there is no contest, with Rooney netting nine goals in 28 appearances this season, a figure Rashford has nearly halved after only two matches.

A number of Manchester United fans were quick to respond to Rooney's message, and remind him his place back in the team may not come automatically...

Not all were negative, with other supporters more encouraging towards Rooney, willing him to come back and help the team kick on.
