Leeds player ratings v Brighton: Bamba's horror show, Wootton struggles yet again

Leeds United 2

Leeds lost 4-0 to Brighton in an embarrassing performance on Monday - here is how their players rated.

Marco Silvestri 5 - couldn't do much with three of the goals, but was beaten far too easily for Brighton's third, as Tomer Hemed's shot went straight through him. Did little to command his area as Leeds' defence were all at sea in the first half.

Scott Wootton 3 - back in the side for the first since his own goal against Watford, this was another torrid night for Wootton. He gave away the penalty for the first goal, was shaky and out of position for most of the night and lasted just 45 minutes before being hauled off at half time.

Sol Bamba 3 - wore the captain's armband, but this wasn't a captain's performance. Bamba was sloppy from the word go, and committed a frankly comical error for Brighton's second goal, lazily giving the ball away inside his own half.

Liam Cooper 4 - wasn't much better than Bamba, but at least he didn't make such a ridiculous error. Unlucky to deflect Sam Baldock's pass into the net and seemed to be lost on the corner for Lewis Dunk's goal in an unconvincing performance.

Charlie Taylor 5 - at least showed some fight by flying into tackles, but this wasn't his best performance. Sometimes out of sync with the rest of his defence and didn't have as much of an impact going forward as he usually does.

Liam Bridcutt 5 - heckled throughout against his former club, and whilst he covered ground and attempted to tackle back against the Brighton attackers, but his passing as sloppier than usual and he didn't have much of an impact on the game, unfortunately for Leeds.

Toumani Diagouraga 5 - had some bright moments driving forward and kept possession fairly well, but wasn't the dominant force Leeds needed in the middle of the park.

Alex Mowatt 6 - one of the very few bright sparks, Mowatt attempted to make things happen in the final third. Had a couple of opportunities from free kicks but maybe isn't the ideal left winger, given his lack of real pace.

Lewie Coyle 7 - played out of position on the right of midfield and did okay, then impressed at right back in the second half. Committed and confident, Coyle came out with credit on a torrid night.

Lewis Cook 7 - another player who came out of the game with credit, Cook was energetic and willing to not only get forward but put in big tackles too. Deserved better than being on the receiving end of a 4-0 defeat.

Souleymane Doukara 4 - Leeds are without Chris Wood which certainly hurts their attack, but Doukara offers very little in the way of goal threat. Rarely looked like scoring against Brighton.

Substitutes

Mustapha Carayol 6 - offered some pace and drive in the final third, something Leeds had been without in the first half. Had a couple of fine runs forward and deserves a start next time out.

Lee Erwin - touched the ball four times in a 15-minute cameo. Didn't offer much more than Doukara up front.

Luke Murphy also came on, but wasn't on long enough to make an impact.
