Bournemouth have moved eight points clear of the Premier League relegation zone after a 2-0 victory over South-Coast rivals Southampton.
Eddie Howe's men began the night 11 points adrift of the Saints, who are in contention for a Europa League position, but Bournemouth barely gave them a chance as they eased to victory at the Vitality Stadium.
After controlling the opening 30 minutes, the Cherries went ahead through Steve Cook's volley before club-record signing Benik Afobe netted the second towards the end of the contest for his fourth goal for the club.
Despite the game failing to entertain supporters during the second half, Bournemouth fans were full of praise for their side after the full-time whistle.
Great win for Bournemouth v Southampton tonight. 8pts clear of the bottom 3. Superb from Eddie Howe and his Cherries!— Grant Campbell BSc (@Stato_Grant) March 1, 2016

Some fans opted to focus their support for specific players, with the performances of Afobe and Simon Francis both being recognised.
I think Benik Afobe answered his detractors tonight. Give him good service and he'll score #afcb— Rob Meech (@RobMeech) March 1, 2016
The result on Tuesday made up for Bournemouth's setback by the same scoreline at St Mary's in November, but they still remain eight points away from catching the Saints in the Premier League standings.
Bournemouth;s next fixture is on Saturday afternoon, when they make the long trek to the North-East to face Newcastle United.
