BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson explains his Aston Villa v Everton prediction

Mark Lawrenson is backing Everton to beat Aston Villa 2-0 this evening.

Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Everton will beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Villa Park in the Premier League this evening.

Villa head into the game off the back of yet another defeat - their 17th of the season - as they were beaten 2-1 away at Stoke City.

Remi Garde's men remain bottom of the Premier League table, eight points adrift of safety, and looked resigned to relegation with just three wins to their name this season.

Now, Villa face Everton at Villa Park this evening, and will be hoping for much better than the last time they faced a Merseyside club at home, having lost 6-0 to Liverpool last month.

Everton head into the game having not even played since losing 1-0 at home to West Brom on the 13th of February, and should be fresh to face Villa, with players like Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku no doubt licking their lips at the prospect of facing Villa's porous defence.

Ahead of the game this evening, pundit Mark Lawrenson has given his views, telling BBC Sport that he thinks Everton will win the game 2-0.

Lawrenson believes that Villa fans just want the season to end after a miserable campaign, and thinks Everton will comfortably bounce back from defeat to West Brom by seeing off Villa tonight.

"Aston Villa lost again at the weekend and I think most of their fans are at the stage now where they would happily fast-forward to the end of the season, just to put them out of their misery," said Lawrenson. "Everton have not had a league game since they lost at home to West Brom on 13 February but this is the perfect fixture for them to bounce back from that," he added.
