Newcastle are hoping to sign Samuel Umtiti this summer.
Speaking to Foot01, the agent of Samuel Umtiti has confirmed that Newcastle United want to sign the French defender, although he did admit that no concrete offer has yet been made to Lyon for his services.
Yannick Um, the agent and Umtiti’s brother, said: “I was contacted in recent weeks by English officials who spoke about the Newcastle interest. But honestly, no concrete offer has been made so far by the English club. We will study the offer from Newcastle.”
Clearly they are already making moves for the 22-year-old, despite their top flight placing still in doubt, hoping to be in the driving seat when the summer transfer window opens.
They have already vocalised their interest to Umtiti’s agent, but have yet to make a formal approach for his services.
Umtiti is extremely highly rated, and signing him would be a real coup for the Magpies given his talents and their current status in the Premier League.
Aged just 22, he is naturally a centre-back who can also play at right-back, and he already has 160 games worth of experience to his name.
He has been capped at every level for France up to Under-21, and it is expected that he makes his senior debut before too long.
