The young West Bromwich Albion defender clearly has an eye for goal.
West Bromwich Albion’s under-18s may have lost 4-3 to their Tottenham Hotspur counterparts on Saturday but one young Baggies player had reason to be cheerful after scoring a blinder in the match.
Dara O’Shea is a 16-year-old centre-back but you would not have thought it given the way he burst forward and ultimately dispatched an unbeatable 30-yard effort into the back of the opposing net.
O’Shea may be more used to keeping balls out at the other end but Saturday’s was a match he is unlikely to forget any time soon.
Given his age it will be a long time before O’Shea is knocking on West Brom manager Tony Pulis’s door, and for all his efforts at one end of the field he will be hugely disappointed to have seen his back-line ship four goals at the other.
However the young Irishman showed the kind of confidence to burst forward that could take him very far in the game.
O’Shea is a current Ireland under-17 international and he has appeared once for West Brom’s under-21 side to date; not bad at all for a 16-year-old.
