Stan Collymore says Crystal Palace losing to Sunderland would leave them in a relegation scrap

Crystal Palace take on Sunderland on Tuesday evening.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Stan Collymore has claimed that Crystal Palace will enter a relegation scrap if they lose once again this week, as they take on Sunderland on Tuesday.

He said: “Immediately they [Palace] dust themselves off and get back on the pitch, and try to get a result against Sunderland which will be very, very tough, because Sunderland have started picking up points lately. All of a sudden, then, if they lose that game, they are in a relegation scrap.”

Palace travel to the Stadium of Light on the back of a defeat at the hands of West Brom, and without a win to their name since December 19.

Alan Pardew’s men were dreaming of European football earlier in the campaign, but this dreadful run of form has sent them down the Premier League table, with the Eagles now sitting in 14th place.

They are eight points clear of the bottom three, but in their current form, it would not be a shock to see them fall closer to the relegation places as the season wears on.

Palace take on Sunderland on Wearside on Tuesday evening, with the Black Cats themselves in a relegation scrap.

They are on 23 points, and a win for the Black Cats against Palace could lift them out of the bottom three, and Collymore believes that Palace will find themselves dragged into a relegation battle if they lose to Sunderland.

It has been a poor 2016 for the Eagles, and another defeat this week would make the rest of the season a fraught experience.
