The two sides are set to meet in the Europa League while Arsenal look set to exit the Champions League.
The Gunners look set to exit the Champions League at the last 16 stage once again this season after a 2-0 loss to Barcelona at the Emirates last week.
In contrast, Liverpool and United have progressed in the Europa League, and are now set to meet to each other in one of the glamour ties of the next round.
Some see that as better than a swift exit, but not Savage, who says he would prefer to be Arsenal as they’ll definitely be in the Champions League next year regardless.
“When I see that tie, Liverpool vs Manchester United, I think wow, how two massive clubs have fallen,” he told Fletch and Sav.
“I’d rather be Arsenal, I know they’re going to get knocked out, but in terms of where they are, they’re still going to be in the Champions League next year.”
The meeting in the Europa League certainly is a clear demonstration of how far these two sides have fallen in recent years.
At one point they were both consistent top four finishers, but now face a fight to even make the top six as the likes of Tottenham and Leicester City challenge for the title in their absence.
Indeed, the Europa League now arguably represents the best piece of silverware either can win this season, a proposition that would have seemed laughable to United in particular not so long ago.
