Watford are lining up a summer move for Raul Albiol, the Mirror reports.
The Hornets have performed beyond all expectations this season, and find themselves in 10th place after 27 games.
One of the defining factors of their success has been their impressive defence, having conceded just 28 goals in those games. The back four and goalkeeper have made up for any attacking limitations that Watford have shown, with Craig Cathcart and Miguel Britos establishing themselves as first-choice centre-backs.
Sebastian Prodl has deputised well, and Joel Ekstrand is still to return from injury, with young Tommie Hoban also on the sidelines.
However, head coach Quique Sancez Flores wants to bring another centre-back to Vicarage Road next season, with Albiol the priority target.
The 30-year-old is entering the final year of his Napoli contract this summer, and Watford are ready to make a £1.5 million move for the 52-capped Spanish international.
It is not stated whether Albiol himself wants to move to Watford, but he could wish to enjoy a spell in the Premier League as he enters the final stages of his career.
World Cup winner Albiol, who has also played for Valencia, Getafe and Real Madrid in his career, has played 26 times for Napoli this season, as they fight for the Serie A title with Juventus.
