Spanish commentator Gaby Ruiz takes on role with Boro.

Middlesbrough have added more Iberian flavour to their backroom staff with Spanish football analyst and commentator Gaby Ruiz quitting his media role to take up a role with the Championship side.

Boro appointed respected Spaniard Victor Orta as the head of club's continental scouting network, and now, with Karanka's blessing, he has brought in Ruiz.

Ruiz was one of the main faces on Spain's television network Movistar, but he confirmed live on air over the weekend that he would be taking up a role with the Teesside club.

Karanka told a news conference ahead of their game with Blackburn on Tuesday reported by the club's website, : "He [Ruiz] will be working in our scouting department. He was working with Victor, they know each other, they have been working together for a few years, so it's for that department.

“He knows a lot of players, not just in Europe but in the world, so it's an important appointment. But the head of recruitment is Victor and he's come in to work with him. Victor has brought him here because he knows him and he trusts him.”

Meanwhile, Karanka confirmed he has a near fully fit squad for the game at Ewood Park but he confirmed the club still do not know when key defender Daniel Ayala will be back from his ankle injury he suffered at the start of this month.

"He’s not running or training with the team, but the rest of the players are ready," he confirmed.
