Taking to his personal Twitter account, Glenn Hoddle has reacted to Manchester City winning the League Cup against Liverpool, praising Manuel Pellegrini for his attitude and poise since it was announced Pep Guardiola would be taking charge of City.
City secured the League Cup by defeating Liverpool on penalties, with goalkeeper Willy Caballero making up for some poor performances with an excellent display in the shootout.
He saved three spot-kicks, and with the City players converting theirs, Pellegrini’s team won the first piece of silverware available in the 2015/16 season.
Liverpool performed impressively, and did well to get back into the game after going behind, but City lived up to their pre-game billing by picking up the trophy.
Hoddle has praised Pellegrini for his attitude and composure in the wake of the announcement confirming Pep Guardiola will be taking charge of City from next season.
Whilst many managers could become prickly and spiteful knowing that they will soon be out of a job, Pellegrini has retained his usual demeanour, and his poise means he remains charming and enjoyable.
Unfortunately for Pellegrini, he has seen his side fall out of the FA Cup, and drop behind in the Premier League title race since the announcement.
They have won the League Cup, and could still secure an unlikely victory in the Champions League, but it is not expected that Pellegrini’s final season in English football will bring a large trophy haul.
