Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT last Friday morning (February 26) that Aston Villa could go down to League One.
"Aston Villa could be relegated again, down to League One - that is how worrying the current situation is,” the former Villa attacker told Sky Sports.
Mills agrees with Merson, and when pointed his comments about Villa, he said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT last Friday morning (February 26): “Every chance.
“We have seen it happen with Sheffield Wednesday, we have seen it happen with Leeds. It does happen from time to time.
“I think they have got to start the recruitment now, and that starts with a manager that knows the Championship, someone like Nigel Pearson.”
Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday are two of the biggest clubs in England, but they are now in the Championship.
While Wednesday could end up in the playoffs this season, the Whites are likely to finish in the bottom half of the table.
The current Villa squad is average, and if they go down to the Championship at the end of the season, then the club will have to sign players who know the league inside out.
The Villans will return to action on Tuesday evening when they take on Everton at Villa Park in the Premier League.
