Sunderland fans react to DeAndre Yedlin's performance against West Ham

Sunderland Stadium of Light

Sunderland lost 1-0 to West Ham United this weekend but what did Black Cats fans make of the USA international's contribution?

Sunderland could not build on their recent 2-1 victory against Manchester United as they lost 1-0 to West Ham United on Saturday despite having plenty of chances to secure another vital three points.

Sam Allardyce’s men are playing some great football right now; but just as they did against Manchester City recently, they could not turn their dominance into a goal and they remain firmly ensconced in a relegation battle with just 11 games remaining.

Things could have been very different if Jack Rodwell had converted a great chance set up by USA international DeAndre Yedlin who is currently on loan at the Stadium of Light from Tottenham Hotspur.

The right-back has been in and out of the Sunderland side and continues to divide opinion of both Black Cats and Tottenham fans, but there is little doubt he is a better option for his current club than the much-maligned Billy Jones.

Yedlin has played every minute of Sunderland’s last two matches and he seems to be Allardyce’s preferred choice at right-back for now.

It remains to be seen if the 22-year-old has a future at Tottenham given the presence of Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker at White Hart Lane, but he is still young and his pace could be utilised effectively by Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino on the wing in due course.
