Saido Berahino is West Brom’s Kane or Vardy, says manager Tony Pulis

Saido Berahino

The West Brom boss believes he is on the same level as the Tottenham and Leicester City stars.

Saido Berahino is as important to West Bromwich Albion as Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy are to Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City, Tony Pulis has told BBC Sport.

The young striker has endured a frustrating season with the Baggies, having been frozen out of the first team by Pulis in recent months.

That came after a somewhat disastrous summer transfer window in which a failed move to Tottenham Hotspur led to him claiming he would not play for the club again.

He has since apologised for that, and returned to the first-team on Saturday to score in his side’s 3-2 win over Crystal Palace.

And speaking after the game, Pulis says that Berahino is as important to his side as Kane and Vardy have been to their respective sides this season.

"If you take Kane out of Tottenham's team or Vardy out of Leicester's, they leave massive holes. Saido is as good for us as they are," he told BBC Sport.

"When Saido and Salomon Rondon, play together they are handful and we haven't had that for half a season."

A look at the stats does demonstrate just how important Berahino is to the club.

He has four goals for them this season despite the fact he has not started many games, a tally which makes him the club’s second top goalscorer alongside Salomon Rondon.

Those numbers indicate his importance further, and they will be hoping he can add more to his tally between now and the end of the season.
