Report: Arsenal and Chelsea battle for Barcelona youngster Ruiz

The two sides are thought to be keen on the 16-year-old striker.

Arsenal and Chelsea are set to do battle for Barcelona wonder kid Abel Ruiz, reports the Mirror.

The 16-year-old is highly rated at the Nou Camp, but is yet to sign a professional contract with the Catalan giants.

That has led to them fearing he could move away from the club, with chairman Josep Maria Bartomeu allegedly fearing that the increased money in England could tempt youngsters to move abroad.

Besides that, youngsters may also be looking at the success of the likes of Gerard Deulofeu and Bojan at Everton and Stoke City respectively as examples of success following moves away from Spain.

And two clubs who are particularly keen on Ruiz are Arsenal and Chelsea, with the Mirror reporting both are keeping track of him.

Indeed, Arsenal scout Francis Cagigao is reportedly a regular at youth team games in Spain in order to keep a close eye on Ruiz and several other starlets.

Both clubs have already reportedly  moved to try to secure him as well, having spoken with the player’s family over a potential move.

The Gunners would surely be his preferred choice though, having developed the likes of Cesc Fabregas and more recently Hector Bellerin since their moves from the Catalan giants.
