The Bayern Munich boss is set to take over at the Etihad in the summer.
The current Bayern Munich boss is set to arrive at the Etihad Stadium in the summer, having agreed a deal to join City as Manuel Pellegrini’s replacement.
Many are expecting big things from him, with the club hoping the Spaniard can enjoy similar success to what he has had at Barcelona and Bayern.
And Lampard has backed him for success at his former club, adding that he hopes Jose Mourinho takes charge at Manchester United so they can renew their fierce rivalry from their days in La Liga.
"There are two geniuses: Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola - what a great rivalry that will be if Jose goes to Old Trafford,” he told the Daily Mail.
"They will be a huge force under Guardiola. I think, yes, Man City can push on in a massive way. He's an innovator."
What will be interesting to see at City is whether Guardiola spends big on multiple signings or decides to work with what he has.
There is obviously quality in the current City squad, but some of their signings in recent years have looked far from the quality that their price tags would suggest they possess.
Guardiola then may feel a clean sweep is needed for the start of his reign at the Etihad.
If that turns out to be the case, it will be fascinating to see who stays and who goes from the current crop, as well as who arrives in the summer.
