Sam Allardyce identifies the big positive to come out of Sunderland's latest defeat

Sunderland were beaten 1-0 by West Ham United at the weekend.

Sam Allardyce has told Sunderland’s official website that the fact his side created so many chances in the second half against West Ham United was a big positive to take.

Sunderland were beaten 1-0 by the Hammers at Upton Park yesterday, but they still put in an encouraging showing.

The Black Cats had a number of presentable opportunities towards the back end of the game, and Allardyce was pleased with his side’s showing.

“We have to make sure performances like this get us victories never mind draws,” Allardyce said. “One of the big positives is that we played really well in the second half and when we introduced Jack Rodwell he came on and got three chances.”

Sunderland ended up having 13 shots, but they could not convert to seal what would have been an important victory.

Rodwell was particularly guilty of missing some big openings, but the likes of Jermain Defoe and Wahbi Khazri also had chances to score, yet could not apply the finishing touches.

Sunderland’s performance levels have certainly improved of late, but they seriously need to start picking up victories more regularly.

The Black Cats have taken four points from their last four matches, despite putting in some of their best displays of the season.

Sunderland are currently in 19th place in the Premier League table, but they are still only one point away from safety.
