Burnley midfielder Joey Barton has taken to Twitter to praise the performance of Liverpool ace Lucas Leiva against Manchester City.
Liverpool lost the Capital One Cup final on penalties against City earlier today, as Philippe Coutinho's equaliser cancelled out Fernandinho's opener.
Goalkeeper Willy Caballero produced a superb shoot-out performance to keep Liverpool at bay, as the Argentine saved from a host of Reds stars - including Lucas.
That shouldn't take anything away from his all-round performance though. The Brazilian has adapted in so many ways since arriving from Gremio in 2007, as he was initially an attack-minded midfielder who then became a defensive midfielder at Anfield.
However, a shortage of centre backs means that Lucas started in the heart of defence against Manchester City, and he was posed with the unenviable task of keeping Sergio Aguero quiet.
Lucas did impress though, and Joey Barton - a former Liverpool youth player - has offered his praise to 29-year-old Lucas this evening.
Barton took to Twitter to suggest that Lucas was Liverpool's man of the match, labelling his performance at Wembley as 'brilliant' despite playing out of position...
Have to say think Lucas has been brilliant at centre half today. Especially against Aguero. #MOTM for me.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) February 28, 2016
