Gary Lineker and Rio Ferdinand both rave about Arsenal's Mesut Ozil

Arsenal were beaten 3-2 by Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Despite Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester United, both Gary Lineker and Rio Ferdinand praised Mesut Ozil’s contribution to the match.

Ozil claimed an assist and a goal, but the German’s performance did not stop Arsenal falling to a disappointing defeat at Old Trafford.

United named a young team for the fixture, but they came out on top to seriously damage Arsenal’s title hopes.

Two goals from Marcus Rashford, who was making his Premier League debut, and a strike from Ander Herrera secured the three points for the Red Devils.

Arsenal were left frustrated after the match, with many of their players falling short of expectations.

However, both Lineker and Ferdinand praised Ozil’s display during the contest suggesting that he could still hold his head up high.

Ozil has been one of Arsenal’s star players this season, and he has now claimed 18 assists over the campaign to date - leaving him just two away from equalling the record set by Thierry Henry.

His good form was not enough to inspire Arsenal to victory over Louis van Gaal’s men though, and their chances of winning the Premier League title are now looking slim.
